#SPARKcon Night at the Races


At SPARKcon this year, as a part of geekSPARK, cyclists and citizens were able to compete in a head to head simulated race up Fayetteville Street.  The course was timed to see how long it would take to bike that distance versus your competitor.  Beat your competition and you are the Champ -- Loose and you are the Chump.  The champion this year was clocked right in around 30 seconds.

 The Tour d'Spark was curated by Alan Wiggs, chair of the Raleigh Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee.  I'd expect to see this again next year as it was a ton of fun.  Perhaps there will be a bracket where Raleigh area cyclists can compete for grand champion.  It'd also be great to set up a game of Bike Polo during the festivities, as well.  See the following video for some serious head-to-head action:

Are you the fastest cyclist on Fayetteville St? Sign up and compete in a simulated one on one 500m bike race down Fayetteville St. Race bikes are provided, bring your best sprint speed if you are a CHAMPION. The race will take 36 or more seconds to finish.”
Technology used: Arduino UNO, micro servos, LED drag race Christmas tree, and hall effect sensors.

  • Saturday, September 15th, 7pm-9pm, On Fayetteville Street at Hargett Street
